Bio:
Swoop started his musical adventure with the purchase of Erik B and Rakim - Paid in Full back in 1986. Twelve years old at the time, he had already become accustomed to the structures of music by playing string bass, trombone and even bassoon. Bass became a part of Swoop before he even knew what was happening. Between making warm-up mixtapes for his high-school basketball team (which included tracks such as Public Enemy-Welcome to the Terrordome and LL Cool J-Cars Drive By) and working at the local AM country radio station, Swoop began to understand how sound could positively influence even the casual music fan...
Fast forward to Tallahassee 1994...
North and Central Florida were undoubtedly a hotspot in the progression of underground electronic music stateside at the time. Swoop split his attention between the innovative sounds of Rabbit in the Moon, Chris Fortier, DJ Sandy, Andy Hughes, etc. and the minimal and grinding productions of Wu-Tang, Boot Camp Click, FlipMode, and Def Squad (Redman/Erick Sermon/Keith Murray). Swoop finally decided to advance his musical attention by acquiring his first turntables and mixer in 1998. At that point he was captivated by nu-skool breaks and purchased vinyls by such labels as Marine Parade, Botchit Breaks, Functional, Track 1, and TCR. After doing several bar shows and many more house parties in DC, Swoop relocated to Atlanta in the fall of 2002. At that point the tunes changed, as did their availability, so Swoop followed suit and vanished.
Lo and behold, after looking for a DnB set by his DC homie Darkenitics, Swoop stumbled upon several dubstep sets on expansionbroadcast.com. At that point, Swoop realized why he never got rid of his turntables! Soon after, he began listening to dubstep.fm, became a regular member of the chat, and found his calling. Not long after purchasing and receiving his first few vinyls, Swoop began to broadcast on dubstep.fm in October of 2008. With the help and support of tminus, Shambles and Dopelabs, Swoop was encouraged to pursue dubstep further. Before Swoop left Atlanta, he made sure to connect with the local DJs, producers and promoters that are at the forefront of the ATL dubstep scene: Jeremy, Distal, Whisperlink, Werd2Jah, Ployd, Antimatter, Ryan ze Lion, Ike, Mayhem, Clickone...the list goes on.
Now in Michigan, Swoop has brought the dubstep invasion. As the Grand Rapids electronic scene grows, so does dubstep, and Swoop has been a driving force behind it. With a style that is groovy and banging, Swoop can play at any time of night in any venue. After opening for MRK1 at Smart Bar in Chicago, Swoop has turned a chapter on what it means to rock it. Ask anyone that's into GR dubstep, they know Swoop. And yes, he will do a shot with you ~.-
